New hottness, 41 miles on it when I picked her up. Rated 30/41 per EPA, 38/44 per some lab VW hired. Hopefully she will get something towards the latter of those in real world use.

In honor of our Pilgrim's forebearers barely averted starvation, I shall be journeying up to the Greater Seattle Area this coming weekend through the next, and would love to see you all for wonder and merriment! You stand advised!

Interesting article on the housing collapse from the perspective of someone who noticed it before it went down, but didn't know fully what they were looking at:

Pros:
Moved back to the west coast
Unique job, job++;
Went sailing in Alaska
Learned how to be an aggressive driver
New York Croquet Trip
Harris Teeter's "Kickin' Crab 'n' Corn Chowder"
Cons:
Horrible, horrible, horrible hours
Dating: Not so much with the luck on this
Social circle in DC: ditto
Had to switch apartments when craptacular landlord turned off the power, blocked access to the washer and dryer and asked for a copy of my car keys
Dear god, the Cesspool on the Potomac's urban planning/traffic
Had to deal with an entire year of people calling me a hippy half-seriously
The Atlantic shore: so doesn't compare

Leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again
Nov. 10th, 2007 | 06:19 pm
Ok, so it's not a jet plane, it's more of an '89 Camry, but the point still stands. Long and short of it is that I'm leaving DC for the sunnier climes of San Jose, California! My start date is December 3rd, I'm going to be leaving DC this Friday and going to Seattle for Thanksgiving (if anyone wants a really long road trip now is the time), then down to San Jose around December 1.
I still need to find myself a place, so if any of you know of anything or someone looking for a roommate, let me know. Craigslist seems to have plenty of stuff here and I've got some temporary housing so I should be alright in any case.
Those who are going to be in Seattle around Thanksgiving and I have not yet made plans for food and merriment, we should.
Back on the proper coast, baby!

Out where a friend is a friend
Where the longhorn cattle feed
On the lowly gypsum weed
Back in Seattle again
Ok, so Seattle might only have a OS formerly known as Longhorn and the only gypsum is in the sheetrock, but I am back on July 27th and leaving August 3rd! So, you are all advised, and there shall be the making of merry! And dim sum! And pan-cakes! And alcohol! And Starcraft!
Also, can anyone give me a ride from the airport on the 27th at 7 pm? If so, that would be super, and will be rewarded with the buying of drinks later that evening.

New York was awesome, loved the city and the people within (both natives and visitors)! Many more photos to come, but this one is for starters cause it's such a great expression, both of the face and of the trip.

Homeward bound
Oct. 20th, 2006 | 09:28 pm
Hello everyone, letting y'all know that I will be leaving the cesspool on the Potomac to get back to Seattle on Monday the 20th of November at 1 pm. If anyone is free then to pick me up at the airport that would be awesome, if not I can slum it on Metro easily enough.
I leave on the 28th and it would be great to hang out with people while I am there, let me know.
( Flight details )

Here ye, here ye,
I am publicly apologizing to Tracy for making some poor choices re: our breakup that hurt her, and I would like to make amends, with a public apology being part of such an effort.

So I am now housed in "scenic" Springfield, VA.! It's a basement apartment in a split level house, so don't expect a great view or anything :P
People wishing free accommodations in the Washington Metropolitan region are welcome, providing some advance notice, and I am somewhat lacking in furniture at the moment (but will fix this soon). I am about 1.5 miles walking from the Springfield-Franconia metro station, and a little connector bus runs between the station and the main road near my house if you don't want to walk that far. The station is on the blue line, and takes about half an hour to downtown DC.
I am working shifts, so my schedule gets pretty wacky but I can probably pick potential travellers up from the airport if I am not working or sleeping. (Reagan/National/DCA is the airport right on the Potomac, Dulles is harder to get to since it's way out in the suburbs and Metro doesn't get out there)
The address is 7009 Oriole Ave, Springfield VA 22150 and my now-primary email address is andymiller@gmail.com if you want to get in touch. Come visit!

So reminder again: going away party, my place, this Saturday, starting 8ish. Bring yourself and a snack/boozable, rsvp is you can so I can try and plan for how much stuff to provide myself. Probably not doing extensive cooking this time due to impending packing of major cooking utensils and such.
Be there or be two sets of parallel lines, with a right angle in there somewhere.
Summary: 8 o'clock, 1201 N 44th Apt #2, (206) 953-1287, bring some form of foodables/boozables and rsvp.

Going away par-tay
Aug. 9th, 2006 | 05:41 pm
So I have finally been deemed worthy of a start date of September 5th, and I will be leaving for the scenic Washington DC outer beltway on August 23rd for a wonderous cross-country-in-summer driving adventure, and will be throwing a going away party for such before that date. I have not yet decided which date, so let me know if there are any huge events I should know about to not schedule on, and I will try to choose a date soon and let you all know.
EDIT:
I have tentatively decided to set August 19th as the date, further details to be issued as events warrant, but free up your calenders.
